For your information, music is subjective!
This is not a list of 'Best Albums of All Time' and it is most definitely not a list of 'Albums You Will Like'. Instead, it's my current (and continuously updating) catalogue of albums that holds a very special place in my heart. Now, why should you listen to a teenager who spends too much time listening to music (and honestly not enough)? Well, sadly I don't have a reason to give you. But if you love music, there's no reason not to read through!
(These albums are in no specific order)
...Like Clockwork By Queens of The Stone Age
Something familiar to start! And yes, I first listened to this album because Fantano named it as a 10/10 album (not that I listen to music critics, but he was right for this). Like Clockwork is an absolute beauty of melodic storytelling where each song is unique and perfectly composed with a myriad of different flavors. There is not a moment where I'm bored (though music doesn't bore me in general). There are times when you can easily tell when a band has a strong vision, and Like Clockwork not only exceeds the vision, but also has a stronger execution.
It's hard to pick favorites out of this album, but if I had to choose:
I Sat By The Ocean
The Vampyre of Time and Memory
Kalopsia
Fairweather Friends
Sanguivore by Creeper
When I first discovered this band, I was on a mission to find something similar to My Chemical Romance (I just can't get enough, can I?) Though they share traits of theatrics and melodic elements (and never ending lore), Creeper has their own gothic flair. Sanguivore takes us through a theatrical vampire epic starting with its very own nine minute track: Further Than Forever. The album is ambitious, aesthetic heavy, beautifully designed and should be played in a stadium where everyone's singing My armageddon girl could end your world with one look.
My favorite songs:
Further Than Forever
The Ballad of Spook and Mercy
More Than Death
Love and Pain (on the extended edition)
Diary of Underage Observation by KurageP
Ok vocaloid lovers, here's your album. I still need to listen to more vocaloid, but KurageP was the first to catch my ears. Diary of Underage Observation cannot be more perfect with its fun, catchy and upbeat melodies, awesome guitar riffs and sunny energy. Did I start learning Japanese to understand this album? Partly, but it is a real good reason to start. This album is also a good place to start if you're new to vocaloid or like J-Rock in general!
Some favorites!!
わたしのアール (Watashi no R)
チュルリラ・チュルリラ・ダッダッダ! (Chururira Chururira Daddadda!)
アマゴイ未成年 (Amagoi Miseinen)
Different Class by Pulp
SIGH! Pulp is incredible. Pulp is beauty. Pulp is everything. Pulp is also the first britpop band I've listened to and still the best. Common People is a classic with such raw lyrics, clear message, and such compelling musical composition. It's catchy, it's cool, and it's clean cut with nothing left hanging. Pulp is also one of those bands where you can hear the intention behind every chord and every note being played, and Different Class is a prime example of this. There's still lots to explore with Pulp with their catalogue of eight albums, but I know for a fact that I'd enjoy every song.
My top picks:
Mis shapes
Common People
I Spy
Disco 2000
Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan
It's not an album list without best pop girl CHAPPELL ROAN! I'll take my 'I was here before she was popular' star with gratitude, but I knew she was going to be successful as soon as I heard the album. Like Chappell's personality, this debut album is bold, sassy, and full of camp. It is a proud, loud, and vulnerable declaration of her identity that allows the queer community to connect. Her melodies are diverse and exciting, her lyrics are personal and humorous, her voice is dynamic, powerful, and filled with personality.
My faves!!
Red Wine Supernova
HOT TO GO
Kaleidoscope
Naked in Manhattan
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
What's a teenager's list of favorite albums without The Black Parade? I will say that Revenge has better songs (or more of my favorites), Bullets is much more personal and has better lyrics, and Danger Days is more interesting sonically, but there is not a single song on this album that I would skip on any day. Along with the ever expanding lore, TBP is, in my opinion at least, My Chem's most cohesive and ambitious album as well as best mixed. It is a theatrical production and I'm so happy the band gets to live out their vision for their Long Live Tour (which I'm going to!!!!). No notes, just listen!
My favorites!!!
The End
Sleep (this might be my favorite my chem song ever but I can't choose)
Disenchanted
Famous Last Words
The Jaws Of Life by Pierce The Veil
Apologies to old PTV fans that thinks their new sound is too mellow but I'm completely disregarding your opinion. It may be because of emotional attachment since I first listened to this cause I was sad that Gojo died (yes I know), but even after many re-listens, TJOL continues to serve its purpose. This album is genuinely beautiful and harmonious with every instrument being striking and assertive, not to mention Vic's gorgeous voice. I won't lie, this album has made my heart physically warm up multiple times, and I will never get tired of it.
My absolute best songs:
Emergency Contact (One of my all time favorite songs actually)
The Jaws of Life
12 Fractures
Kiss Me Now (on the deluxe!)
The Dresden Dolls by The Dresden Dolls
Oh god, this album made me audibly gasp. I love dark cabaret in general (and if you do, you should check out birdeatsbaby!) and this album isn't only a gorgeous entrance into this sub genre, but also a vulnerable display of the duo's artistry and pain. Each song is raw, unfiltered, deeply unique and composed with a sort of mad genius that can never be fully understood. After I finished the album, I sat there and suddenly the saying 'I have no words' became very clear to me. I do have no words. It's just really, really good.
My picks!
Good Day (Also probably one of the best songs ever)
Half Jack
Girl Anachronism
Missed Me
How I'm Feeling Now by Charli XCX
(Sorry for not using the other cover, the image was much too big)
This album changed pop music, ask anyone! It is a significant album in hyperpop, and personally, it's perfect. While BRAT might seem to be Charli's favorite child, How I'm Feeling Now is, in my opinion, much more innovative, coordinated, and well built. It's straightforward with 11 songs to convey a vision and each song tickles my brain in the best way possible with sonically satisfying effects that brings individuality to every track. This was my first Charli album too, and I'm so happy to see how far she's come.
Fave tracks:
Forever
Claws
Party 4 U
C2.0
SOPHOMORE SLUMP CALLITHUMP by STOMACH BOOK
Okay listen, this isn't for everyone (it's most definitely for me), but for those who like emo cabaret noise, this album is perfect. I'm a music listener who enjoys noise especially if it's used to demonstrate a certain suffering or to express overwhelming emotion, and Stomach Book does this well. There are critiques that everything is 'too noisy' and not 'coherent' enough and even though it's true, this album is a jumble of a million different things, I believe that it's the noise that makes everything so raw and beautiful. Does it sound 'too much'? Sure, but at the same time, our emotions are 'too much' to begin with.
My favourites:
Are You Waiting
Playing Pretend
Anarchy!!!!
Heartbeat
Wallsocket by Underscores
I cannot express how much I love underscores, she's one of the best hyperpop artists out there. Wallsocket is a gorgeous production filled with riveting melodies, commentary, and storytelling. It's smart with its lyrics along with the remarkable instrumentals that perfectly utilizes its electronic elements to create distinctive sounds to define each song. The director's cut version actually holds one of my favorite songs of all time 'CCTV', perfectly capturing a flood of emotions and directing it to convey a narrative.
My favorites!!
CCTV
Northwest Zombie Girl
Stupid
You Don't Even Know Who I Am
Light Me Up by The Pretty Reckless
I love Taylor Momsen so much, I love her voice. Light Me Up is a classic, and it's really powerful. Every song is strong and bold and big and energetic with Taylor's voice giving the song its special flair (there's nothing better than an angry woman who can sing, really). Light Me Up is aggressive, direct, and filled with attitude with its melodies and grungy guitars being a driving force. As a singer myself, these songs would be so fun to perform (but her vocal range is a little lower than mine :( )
Favorite songs:
Makes Me Wanna Die
Just Tonight
Goin Down
Since You're Gone
Some more perfect albums but I don't have an attachment to these ones yet or I'd have to listen again or other reasons:
Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
The Power of Falling by Mineral
Ants From Up There by Black Country New Road
When The Kite String Pops by Acid Bath (This is that kind of album that I know I'd love when the time comes but I just need to re listen)
Art Angels by Grimes (I love this album but it's just ALMOST there like if it was a little shorter)
Blue Weekend by Wolf Alice (I also love this album but there are a few songs I need to love first)
Voices by Matchbook Romance (IT'S ALSO ALMOST THERE)
